Disguise

The staff at Stew Leonard's were dressed in costume today. This gentleman was happy to pose for me. I love Halloween!

Prosperity

At one point in time, having the railroad go through one's town was a sign of prosperity. It's not the case anymore; but there's still something about trains that trucks and planes will never supplant. These tracks are near my brother's house in Little Falls, New Jersey. I used PictureShow to take the photo back to the time when Railroad was king.

Professional

As I was going into my work, this man was going into his: each to his or her profession. We waved to each other. I used Iris PhotoSuite to highlight the lines of this impressive earth moving machine.

Fresh

Frost has killed the flowers outdoors, but copious petunias are blooming in one of my AeroGardens. I used PictureShow to soften the colors and add some texture & definition.

Late autumn in New England: the colors are growing rusty and blustery winds send the leaves glittering off the trees. PictureShow provides the framing for this view of the orchard after the picking season is over.

Seasonal

Late autumn: the colors are growing rusty and the leaves are drifting off the trees. The woods at Crescent Lake are stilling themselves for winter. Processing was done in Iris Photo Suite.

Crossing the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge from Staten Island to Brooklyn. Processing done in Iris PhotoSuite.

October 23: Motion

I went down to Staten Island for my 40 year high school reunion. Here two of my classmates get down on the dance floor. I used PhotoForge just to brighten the scene a bit.

Real Life

Hartford, Connecticut: downtown viewed from the industrial end, such as it is anymore. Hartford is one of the many smaller northeastern cities abandoned for the suburbs now struggling to right itself having lost its heart and now swamped by poverty and crime. Processing was done in PictureShow.

The bucket of a backhoe rests in the grass near the parking lot at my job. Processing done in PictureShow.

Motion

A five year old is always in motion. Here is my grandson, the delight of my heart, playing with a triceratops that we just built. I used BlurFX to play up the movement and energy.

Seasonal

Come February, I'll be wondering whatever possessed me to move north to New England; but on a crisp day in October, there is no better place to live. This fiery maple stands on the edge of the apple orchard. I used TiltShift Generator to soften & darken the edges of the photo, but that is the real unenhanced color of the leaves.

Tools

At my job, we deal with confidential medical information. Most of it is on computer, but we still deal with paper. Each of us is responsible for disposing of such paper by putting into locked bins. Something about the shiny gold locks on the blue plastic bins keeps catching my eye. I used PictureShow Yo create a collage effect.

Fresh

The ebullient Father Robert leads the children of the parish in prayer. He's been a breath of fresh air in a church that's needed it badly. TiltShift Generator puts the focus on the enthusiastic response of the kids.

Motion

The height of the Renaissance Faire is the joust at the end of the day. It pits the noble Duke Edward against the evil Dame Fiona. Here, after the tilting, they have at it with swords. TiltShift Generator & Infinicam helped augment the energy and motion of the contest of arms.

Translucent

Some autumn leaves linger after last night's nor'easter. Processing done in Infinicam.

Prosperity

Prosperity is having a hearty woodpile stacked up before the winter arrives. The intriguing pattern on the split side of this log caught my eye. I used VintagePhoto to play up that one piece in the stack.

Tools

I'm not quite sure what function this faucet has. It's located in the stairwell at my office building. I used PictureShow and PicGrunger to highlight the textures of the faucet and the cement block wall behind it.

Tranquility

The pond at Wells State Park in the early morning light. We only saw the early morning light because it was too wicked cold to sleep!

Tranquility

It's the last day of camping at Wells State Park in Massachusetts. Sunset was at 6:15, and it's pretty darned cold out here. We're going to have a bit of a campfire, but then we're going to retire to the sleeping bags early. I caught this view of the late light on the lake as we were going for our campground walk before the sun set.

Orange

Sierra came with us today to get our Halloween pumpkin from the Pickin' Patch in Avon. I used ColorBlast and TouchUp to play up the orange of the pumpkins scattered across the field as well as the early touch of orange in the trees.

Berlin Train Station

Our daughter came home from college for a weekend visit via train, arriving at this classic station here in town. The photo was taken with the ClassicToy app and not modified afterwards.

Weathered

As I was getting out of my car on the way to get my hair cut, I spied these weathered boards on the side of a garage by the parking lot. I was snapping away with my iPhone when I was confronted by an officious lady in a suit, who tartly asked if she could help me. When I told her that I was just taking pictures of the wood because it was fascinating and explained that I had to take a picture a day for a whole year, she clearly decided that I was beyond help and started to back away. Well, the wood IS fascinating, especially when enhanced just a tad in PictureShow.

Seasonal

Early autumn storms have blown leaves from our maple trees. Some of them were stuck by the rain to the textured glass tabletop in the Secret Garden alongside the house. Processing was done in PictureShow.

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

Professional

Tuesday afternoons are quiet at our library, but the librarians are always there to help and to share their enthusiasm for reading and learning. We have the world's best librarians! (This is not Val's Aunt Betsy, but she was there.)

Ordinary

Here is my Tilley hat, hanging from its hook at my cube at work: an ordinary sight, typical of a drizzly workday. I used Iris PhotoSuite and BestCamera to bring out the details, such as the hat's stitching.

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Motion

The midway is all about motion, sound, lights and garish colors. I used LiveFX and Iris PhotoSuite to play up those effects.

Hanging

When the Ferris wheel stops, people are hanging, suspended over the Fairgrounds. Editing was done with TiltShift Generator and PhotoForge.

Friday, October 1, 2010

More rain, wind and it's a work day--not optimal for finding a photo. But someone put this pretty plant in the ladies' room at my sterile office building, and that added some color and life to a dull grey day. I took the picture with Hipstamatic and aded some punch with PictureShow.
