I have lived my entire life on the East Coast of the US--first in New York City, and now in Connecticut. When I travel out west, especially to the vast places that used to be prairie and onto the high plains, I feel a beautiful but also unsettling emptiness.

Yummy
We just spent the weekend camping and kayaking in Maine. Saturday evening, there was a lobster bake at the campground. Lobsters, steamers and corn are steamed in a huge bed of fresh seaweed over a fire. this imparts to them an indescribable flavor--pure gustatory bliss.

Masterpiece
To me, there is no greater masterpiece than a sunset. It is God's masterpiece, and no photo can do it justice. This one was on the southern shore of Lake Superior.

Panorama: St. Mary Lake, Glacier National Park
This is Wild Goat Island in the middle of St. Mary Lake in Glacier National Park. We were lucky to be able to see glaciers--it is anticipated that they will all have been melted by 2020, just eight years from now.

Fast
The gulls that swooped overhead on Mackinac Island were fast--I can't tell you how many blurred shots and missed shots I have--but I did nail this one.

Vistas: Badlands after a rain
I am WAY behind on everything--after the trip, had to adapt to Real Life again...but I think I'm back on track now. This is the badlands of North Dakota, right after a rain.

Tranquility: Spray Lake, Alberta, Canada
On the advice of a woman in the office of our campground in Canmore, we took a gravel road into the Canadian Rockies--the high point of our trip. This is a view across Spray Lake.

Water: Last day out
We are back home after our nearly month long odyssey. For most of the trip, we had zero or next to it in terms of phone or wifi connection--and to be honest, on the rare occasion we did, we were just so absorbed with Being There that virtual life fell by the wayside. This is a shot of the Delaware River at the Delaware Water Gap. We camped there last night, our last shot before we went home.
