A little bit of a different Before-and-After today. Today is my daughter's junior prom. The first shot (taken at 3PM EST, my entry for the One Minute World History project) was taken at CVS, after she'd gotten her hair done, but when she was shopping for a bit more glitter for her make-up. The second is her "prom portrait," in her full regalia. Lemme tell you--it was really hard to keep the tears back: OMG--that's my BABY!
After yesterday's glorious afternoon, it was a disappointment to wake up to yet another raw rainy day. But even a sunless day when the sky is weeping has its beauty. I found it in these papery beech leaves and the raindrops clinging to their branches. Removing just the red of the background lets the leaves and the drops glow.
I left for work in my winter jacket on a raw, damp morning that was spitting a cold drizzle from a lowering iron sky. I walked out of work into a warm spring afternoon that was topped with a blue sky studded with cottony clouds. A very simple effect--Color Fade Vertical--makes a distinction betweem the grey industrial grime on the ground and the glorious clouds above.
When I got to work today, I saw something I'd never seen before: three guys were dismantling the billboard that overlooks I-91. The Cutout filter reduces the image to its basic graphic elements--which I liked since it is, in essence, a photo that's all about graphics.
I was lucky--they're using a different sedation these days, so I'm conscious, if a bit groggy. And here's how dedicated we get about the Challenge--the photo was taken from the garage of Hartford Hospital as we were heading in early this morning. My husband was a little incredulous that I was whipping out my little P&S, saying, "Look at that light! I need this picture for my blog!"
I may not be able to post tomorrow. I will try to at least take a picture, but I suspect I'll have to post it on Wednesday (routine medical procedure...no big deal, but I usually wind up really knocked out by the sedative.) I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the 365 Challenge. I can't tell you how much I enjoy browsing through your blogs everyday. It's like being able to wander in a private museum of photography. I'm in awe of the talent here! I'm grateful, too, for the time you spend making comments on my efforts as well. Between looking at what you do and listening to what you say, I've learned so much.The Challenge has certainly caused me to open my eyes and deepened my awareness of my surroundings. If I didn't "have to" take a picture every day--especially the days I work in that dull building that sits in the middle of an industrial wasteland in Hartford--there is so much I would not see. And I wouldn't have undertaken the Challenge (or stuck with it!) if it weren't for all of you. So thank you all--and congratulations to all of you for your stellar work!Bobbie
