I was driving past the orchard this afternoon during a brief period of sunlight in our long stretch of drizzly gloomy weather. This stretch is being planted with new trees. To my rain-weary eyes, the grass seemed to glow in the unfamiliar light. The Water Paper filter shows forth the incandescent colors the way I saw them.

This time of year, there's this Fluffy Stuff (that's the official scientific term) that floats around in the air like tiny atmospheric stars and collects in drifts on the ground. The patterns it produced on the edge of the parking lot at work caught my eye. Pencil Sketch at a reduced capacity lets us see all the fibers that make up the drifts.

This is an example of where what I saw and what the camera saw were two different things. There's a few days in early spring when the grass suddely turns a brilliant green, before anything else had budded. The green is so fresh and so bright amid all the grey and dull brown that it seems to glow. That's what I saw in the orchard today--swaths of luminescent grass running amid the rest of the dormant vegetation. The green caught and held my eye. But in the camera, the tangles of dead weeds and bare branches dominated. The Sponge filter simplifies all that unwanted detail so that the surprising green of the young grass stands out better.
