It's been ten years years since that shattering day. Every year since then, in the midst of all the revelry and celebration that is the NYC St, Patrick's Day parade, we are reminded of the awful sacrifices that were made--343 firefighters, each carrying a flag for one of their comrades who died that day. This year, we happened to be standing next to little Lauren McIntyre and her family. Lauren was featured on the cover of People magazine last fall (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20524377,00.html). She was not yet born when her father, who worked for the Port Authority, died in the attack. Her grandfather marched in her father's place with the Port Authority. When he came by, Lauren and her cousins ran out to hug him. Even after all this time, it's so hard.
