Green

We've had a long, cold, raw winter that stretched out into May. There was no real spring. Summer has just burst upon us. The trees, grass and other vegetation have responded with exuberance. The greens are lush, glorious, glowing, vibrant, life-enhancing and a balm to both eye and soul.

Snack or treat

On weekends, when we have a lot of errands to run, it's a treat to stop at Barnes and Noble to have coffee and a snack. I bring mine, as there are no gluten free offerings, but that's OK. It's pleasant to just sit down for a bit and browse through some of their magazines.

It's bathtime for these kids gamely taking their shift in the Throw a Sponge at a Teenager booth, a popular venue at the town picnic.

Favorite food

Honestly, I can't say I have a favorite food. We are lucky enough to live in a situation where food is abundant. I love to cook, and I prefer to use fresh, whole foods for our meals. One of our favorites is a Caprese salad, using cherry tomatoes and basil grown in our AeroGardens and fresh mozzarella from Stew Leonard's.

Choices

I'm using a free theme today. Our library offers us so many choices...what a gift we have in that, first of all, we are able to read, and secondly, we have all these worlds available to us for free!

Alive

The feed and grain store in town has live baby chicks for sale. You need to have enough space to meet town ordinances and you need to have at least four, apparently by state law. No chicks for us.

Shades of grey

It's been raining for days. It's going to rain for more days. Anywhere we look, it's all in shades of grey. It's rather disheartening. But then I see footage from areas around the Mississippi, and I'm grateful that all we have is lots of rain and shades of grey, but not the loss of home or livelihood.
