For some--not me!-the Dreaded Mal is a playground. This photos has two kinds of lines: the ones created by the trellis over the Starbucks outlet in the center of the mall, and the ones formed by people waiting for their coffee. If you enlarge it, it's kind of a slice of life. I especially like the lovey-dovey couple at the top center.

Helen's suggestion was brilliant. I knew there was something just not right about the original--that glaring white space didn't feel right--but I couldn't figure out what it was. Helen did! I like this a whole lot better. Thanks!

I was attracted to the patterns formed by this collection of quilting magazines back in the stacks at our library.

This is the other photo I took of our magnolia before the frost wiped out the blossoms last night. People on the Lensbaby forum preferred it to the other. What do you think?

In an exuberant response to an unusual warm spell, these magnolias burst into bloom a good month before they ought to have done. Silly things! This is New England. Even a mild winter does not relinquish its control willingly. Tonight, temps are getting down into the 20s and these lovely fragile flowers will be blistered and browned by morning.

Everything is exciting about the St. Patrick's Day Parade in NYC; and a lot of it is loud. Pipe bands combine the two. I absolutely LOVE pipe bands. On my bucket list is learning to play the bagpipes.

Urban/New York

There was a warm subtly golden light on these buildings on 74th Street in NYC on Saturday as evening settled over the city.

It's been ten years years since that shattering day. Every year since then, in the midst of all the revelry and celebration that is the NYC St, Patrick's Day parade, we are reminded of the awful sacrifices that were made--343 firefighters, each carrying a flag for one of their comrades who died that day. This year, we happened to be standing next to little Lauren McIntyre and her family. Lauren was featured on the cover of People magazine last fall (,,20524377,00.html). She was not yet born when her father, who worked for the Port Authority, died in the attack. Her grandfather marched in her father's place with the Port Authority. When he came by, Lauren and her cousins ran out to hug him. Even after all this time, it's so hard.
