A traditional New England church seen as night falls.

I stopped by Paper Goods Pond on my way home this evening. As the light drained from the sky, the lights from the houses started to glitter on the surface of the lake. Just for fun, I tried out Night Vision, then played around with blending modes, and added a bit of a sepia tint. The final image looks a bit like a faded fabric print.

As we were leaving Mass this evening, I turned to see a crescent moon riding over the church. The pastor was turning off the lights, but the stained glass windows were still glowing. I had only my point-and-shoot with me--no tripod--and John was urging me to huttry as we had guests coming for dinner. The resulting photo is grainy, but I liked the light and color. Using Posterize and Glowing Edges distills it down to those two elements.

When I got out of work at 4:30 this evening, I was shocked to find that it was night. Winter hours have descended suddenly. Even yesterday, it didn't seem to be as dark at the same time. Part of it might have been the rain, which made the halogen lights glow on the surface of the parkig lot. Water Color and Poster Edges together played up the contrast of the light against the encroaching dark.

Now that daylight savings time is over, it's dusk when I get out of work. There are orange tinted halogen lights in the parking lot that cast a warm glow on the leaves that are left on the trees. Fresco creates that sense of golden light in the gloaming.

Paper Goods Pond at evening: in my mind, I saw this image in terms of planes of tones and colors. The Cut Out filter rendered it as I imagined it.

Last night, John and I saw Camelot at the Goodspeed Opera House. It's a small theater that was built on the Connecticut River in the 1800s. To get to the theater from the parking lot, one crosses over a small footbridge. From the footbridge, there's a view of the River and the swing bridge across it. Old Photo softened the photo to give it the soft quiet ambiance of a summer evening.

The weather today was sultry, to say the least. This family went to Paper Goods Pond to catch a bit of evening breeze. Intensifying the color at the top and softening it at the bottom evokes the mood of a still, humid summer evening down by the water.

As we were leaving the Trinity carillon concert this evening, we passed this amost Victorian scene of low light and old buildings. Diffuse Glow made the most of the play of light and shadow.

This factory, which once housed Sherwood Industries, is being made over into classy condos. I love the golden glow of the late afternoon sunlight on the brick. Film Grain really shows off the light as well as the weathered mossy character of the bricks.

It's subtle, but using the Colorful Center effect (and then erasing some of it) focuses the attention on the place where the lowering sun lit the trees. It looks much more like what my eye saw this evening than what the camera actually recorded.
