Sunset at Paper Goods Pond

For just a few moments, the sky and the water glowed pink. I played around with the filters in PhotoForge to get this watercolor effect.

Church

Kensington Methodist Church this evening before the weekly Taize service. I used PhotoForge to bring out the glorious gold light of the late summer sun.

I would be embarrassed to admit how many photo apps I have; but in the end, PhotoForge is the one I'd want on a desert island with me.

Faucets

The faucets at our campground were quite colorful. Processing was done in Picture Show.

Downtown

Downtown Woodstock NY, where the hippies came for the festival and never left. Sunday evening is drumming circle on the town green. As we were making our way there, we overheard a grey haired dude in tie dye bitterly complaining to a cop that the drumming leader, "gave him the finger twice," and (worse!) was, "throwing off the beat." We wondered if this was a crime. Seems it must be...ten minutes later, TWO cops show up at the drumming circle & pull the leader off. Who knew there could beuch drama over drumming?

Airstream

The iconic Airstream camper...this one is parked at our campground. Look carefully, and it's a self-portrait, too. Minimal processing was done using PhotoForge.

Wine

A glass of wine in the Secret Garden is a lovely way to wind up the week. It only needed a few tweaks with PhotoForge.

Rain

A passing thunderstorm left crisp drops clinging to these leaves. Minimal adjustments were made in PhotoForge.

Darkness

This is the stairwell to the carillon at the Trinity College chapel. it seems mysterious and medieval. Processing was done in Picture Show.

Horse

We live on one of the main streets in our town. It certainly isn't often that one comes upon someone riding a horse along the side of the road...but this morning, I was asked by this rider for directions. i asked if I could take their picture & was granted permission. Taken from my car, it wasn't a great shot, but Picture Show makes it into something funky and interesting.

Beach

I admit that the shore of Paper Goods Pond is, at best, a very small beach...but one might see a scene like this at a larger one as well. A half moon rides high over phragmites the glows in the light of the setting sun. Processing was done in PhotoForge using its Posterize filter.

Graduation

No graduation us complete without cheesy shots of the graduates taken by the parents. This is my youngest, Sierra Rose, after the ceremony this afternoon.

Music

These two kids play every Saturday at our town's Farmer's Market. The photo was processed in SwankoLab and framed in PictureShow.

Flower

I don't know what kind of flower this is. They are a bright orangey-yellow, and they must be very hardy, because they are planted in patches in the barren islands around gas stations and strip malls. The photo was taken using the Hipstamatic app and processed in Live FX to give it the look of a faded Instamatic snap.

Panorama

The old Sherwood Industry factory stretches out for several blocks along Main Street in our town. It's being renovated into condos. In the evening sun, the brick glows. PhotoForge's Dreamy filter oversaturates the colors and softens the edges a bit.

The Great Outdoors

It is to our grandson, Aidan, anyway...toasting marshmallows over the fire is as good as it gets! I used TiltShift Generator to put the focus on him and the fire, and TouchUp to heighten lights and shadows.

Green

No special effects--just some basic processing in PhotoForge. These are the trees in our Secret Garden reflected in the nubby glass of the outdoor table.

Bird Man

We went for our walk to Paper Goods Pond, and there was this dude with his two parrots. The larger one is an African grey; I can't remember what the smaller one is. He let the larger one climb onto my finger. It was a completely unexpected experience. Processing done in TiltShift Generator.

Balloon Man

The enthusiastic balloon man at the street fair today was none of the adjectives in the classic ee cummings poem "just spring." Still, the words repeated in my mind: "the little lame balloon man whistles far and wee." Processing was done in PhotoGene.

Family

Big and delightful gathering of extended family today--it was all about the stories. This iPhone photo of just a few of the crowd was taken and processed with A new app called Photo+.

Vehicle

The Dial-a-Ride parking lot as seen from the lunchroom of my office building. Processing done in TiltShift Generator.

Foxglove

My husband discovered these foxglove blooming in an overgrown area of the yard. Just some basic processing was done in PhotoForge.

I am a shade embarrassed at the number of photo apps I have on my iPhone; but PhotoForge is the one I return to over and over again. It's like the Elements of apps. It has all the tools to tune up and perfect a photo. There are plenty others for playing with photos, and they generate fun effects. But for me, PhotoForge is the one I use first on every photo to make it the best it can be.

Steel

The house across the street is being renovated. The dumpster they've got in the driveway has the word STEEL spray painted on the side. Processing was done with the new Camera + app.

Sky

Words could not describe the sky today--and even a photo can capture only one fleeting instant of this vast shifting interplay of blue and white, light and shadow. Processing--only to try to make it as crisp and brilliant as it was to the eye--was done in FilmLab.

Dark

As night falls, a couple fishes at Paper Goods Pond. Taken with Hipstamatic, this iPhone photo was processed in SwankoLab.

Family

Tonight, we celebrated Sierra's 18th birthday. To her left is her adoring big brother, our son Christian. To her right, his friend, Tommy (her "other" brother and our "other" son.

Doctor's tombstone

Since I'm a doctor, I find myself eerily attracted to this tombstone of one of my profession who died in 1768. He was only 42. The poignant poem reads:
"No longer ye physician's art avails,
But every remedy its master fails."

Power Box

On our evening walks, we pass an old factory building that's being converted to luxury condos. This power box is on one of the external brick walls. Processing was done with SwankoLab.

Dusk

A canoe slips along by the shore of Paper Goods Pond at dusk. The photo was taken with the ProHDR app.

Wood

A weathered and unused picnic table sits next to the dumpsters by the parking lot at the office building where I work. Processing was done in PhotoForge.

Radio

I saw this simulation of an old radio today and was fascinated by the details and the warm tones of the wood. I used PictureShow to augment the faux-antique look.
