I don't know what kind of flower this is. They are a bright orangey-yellow, and they must be very hardy, because they are planted in patches in the barren islands around gas stations and strip malls. The photo was taken using the Hipstamatic app and processed in Live FX to give it the look of a faded Instamatic snap.

That's a day lily. They are hardy because my Mom thins hers out and throws the ones she removed in a ditch and they will bloom for years. I like the contrast between the flower and the dark background.
