Even after a relatively mild winter, spring-hungry people flock to the Hartford Flower Show, where they can feast their eyes on green grass, flowers, trees in leaf, and even butterflies.

The theme of the Hartford Flower Show was the 50s. These couples were probably dancing to the tunes of the jukebox the first time around, but they generated the same energy now.

Flowers/Sentimental

This is one of the flowers still fresh from the bouquet John gave me on Valentine's Day. He always buys me daisies, because that is the flower I carried on our wedding day, nearly 33 years ago.

Health/Somber

This is the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington. They call it a "health" center, but since it's a tertiary care center, one is usually there to see a specialist and therefore probably not actually healthy. Hence it tends to be a somber place.

Isolation/Soft Focus

A solitary Canada goose drifts on the surface of Paper Goods Pond. The image as shot--as well as the scene itself--had a dreamy quality, which seemed to ask for a soft sepia toning.

Eating/Tiny

A strawberry--wonderful for eating--has many tiny seeds on its surface. In February, they are imported, but come June, we'll go pick them in the fields. They will be smaller, but the taste will be rich and earthy and like no other fruit on earth.

Pastimes/Vehicle

Craig, the younger of my two granddudes, is absolutely fascinated by toy vehicles of any sort, but especially trains and construction equipment--in this case, a bulldozer.

Eating/Chocolate

In this case, the chocolate comes in the form of delicious nuggets imbedded into that most lovely treat: a homemade chocolate chip cookie. (And last anyone think I'm cheating, it is gluten free!)

I used the Lensbaby Muse with the macro kit--both lenses stacked--to create a dramatic DOF that brings out only two petals of this very tiny flower.

Excitement/Perspective

Whether the outcome of a game is good or bad is a matter of perspective. Here is Dan, the lone Patriots supporter in a houseful of rabid Giants fans. The main photo was snapped just as the very tense and hard-fought game turned in the Giants' favor as the clock ticked down towards the end. On the screen: Dan (on the left) when the Pats were ahead, and Johnny (on the right) when the Giants scored the touchdown that would win them the game.

Quests/Found Objects

For his seventh birthday, we took Aidan to a children's museum that had a dinosaur exhibit. At the gift shop, he bought a clay "dinosaur" egg. We had to chip pff the clay to reveal a baby stegosaur. Aidan's a very focused kid. Here he is, dusting off the object of his quest with the brush included in the kit.

Games/Complexity

I've never really mastered the complexity of chess. I dabbled in it a bit as a kid, but I haven't played it in years. This game was set up on a table in our library. I couldn't decide which photo I liked better, so I'm posting both.
