New camera

I'm so excited--I just bought a D-SLR. I've been wanting one for some time and was stashing away a 20 here and there to save up for one, but it was slow going. Then I got a totally unexpected consulting job that provided me with the rest. I bought a Canon EOS T3. It's still in the box. After years of handling a point-and-shoot and my iPhone, I'm half scared of the thing. I'll peruse the manuals tonight; this weekend, I'll be able to get out to play with it. I'm pretty sure I'll still be taking most of my photos with the iPhone. After all, the best camera is the one you have with you, and it's always in my pocket. But the Canon should give me the opportunity to stretch a bit. I'm looking forward to climbing the learning curve.

  1. Yay! I have had my DSLR for 6 months. Practice, practice, practice. There are days when I'm really thinking I am progressing and then days when I find it completely overwhelming, but I keep trying. The T3 was my alternative option to the one I got (60D). I think you made a solid choice and can't wait to see your results.

  2. Also, the manual completely overwhelmed me. I have these two books (the version for my camera) and I liked them both. They really helped me get up and running with stuff the manual won't tell you (things like to set the camera so it won't fire unless there is a memory card in it - I can't imagine thinking you're taking pictures all day to come home and realize there is no camera in the card. I actually headed out once with the card still in my computer.)

  4. Enjoy...take a new feature every 3 or 4 days and master it before going on. Little bites are best!

  5. You're going to have a ball with it Bobbie! It'll take some getting used to, but you'll be getting great shots from it in no time.
