With 70% of the homes in our town out of power, people are desperate for light, heat, Internet access, functioning electric outlets to charge phones & computers, as well as a shared community experience. Our library is providing all that plus friendly, cheerful, helpful librarians (like Val's Aunt Betsy.) People are taking advantage of this in droves. Thank you, librarians!

Must be a very busy place. Hope your electricity gets restored soon.
ReplyDeletePublic Libraries have always been the crux of any community to me!
ReplyDeleteHa! They have no power at their home and are camping with my cousin (their son). Crazy weather does have an odd way of bolstering community spirit, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteThat's the cool thing, Val. I know most of the librarians are in the same position. But they're here, answering the same phone calls and the same question and dealing with people under stress--and they are just nearly saintly In patience and helpfulness. No town could ever have a better library staff. They totally rock. We can't possibly be paying them enough. Once I get power back, the paper & the town are going to hear frI'm me about how truly wonderful they are.
ReplyDeleteAm sure those chairs must be at a premium there in the library.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good place to get some comfort. I'm watching the news and can't believe how many people are still out of power.
