In my house

This is my writing desk. It was the first piece of Real Furniture we bought after we were married in 1979. It's tucked into a corner of our cozy living room. On the wall to the side is one of a pair of embroidered pictures that mother made for us for our wedding. On the desk is a Zen garden and a vase full of sea glass that we've collected on all our visits to the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island Sound. The nooks in the desk hold tiny momentos that are important to me. I am a bookworm. One of the latest from the library is on the desk. Tucked into one of the drawers is the latest volume of the journal that I've kept since I was seventeen. All that in one little corner!

Hope

In a world and a time filled with threat and uncertainty, Tuesday evening Taize services provide a beacon of hope, symbolized by the candles we hold and then bring to the altar in prayer.

Slam on the brakes

Yesterday, as I was driving home from work, I came around a curve beyond the big pillars of the overpass, and there was this train coming at me! The tracks aren't used often and there are no warning lights. It wasn't blowing its whistle. I slammed on the brakes, avoiding being the lead item on the local news.

Isolation

Traditionally, cafes were considered to be places for conversation; now hust as often, people sit in isolation with their computers or other electronic devices.

Heavy

We have had a respite from incessant snow in the past week or two. Since temps have seldom risen much above freezing for a significant amount of time, we still have huge piles of now ugly snow everywhere. Businesses are faced with treacherous parking lots, plus the stuff they've had to clear from huge flat roofs. At Lowe's today, they were carting off heavy snow in heavy trucks using heavy equipment. I do wonder where they were taking it.

Interaction

From what we heard of the coversation drifting across the room, it seemed that this man & woman were just getting to know each other. Here they are interacting with each other & the waitress.

Glowing

At the New Britain Museum of American Art, there is an hallway with a double glass wall that contains shapes of colored glass that have writhing strands of glowing light within them. Tonight was the first time we've seen them in the dark.

Hanging

Buildings across Connecticut have been collapsing under the weight of this year's snow. People are taking desperate measures to relieve the stress on roofs. The Home Depot in our town was closed for two days because it was deemed to be in danger. They used a crane and huge tarps to haul the snow down to the parking lot.

Airborne

All the snow and ice have created issues--including collapsing roofs. Fortunately, we haven't had to deal with that, but there are workers everywhere out in the cold trying to solve or prevent weather related problems.
