Isolation

Traditionally, cafes were considered to be places for conversation; now hust as often, people sit in isolation with their computers or other electronic devices.

  1. That shot definitely conveys isolation. I usually find working surrounded by people to be too distracting.

  2. I can think of a dozen songs that lament the despair that solidatity in a crowded city can bring about, why do people do that to themselves

  10. Next you must take a downtown capture of people walking down the street with mobile phones up to their head...oblivious to the person directly in their oncoming path, talking on their phone as well.

  13. Your composition and treatment really highlights the disconnect from the subject's surroundings. I wonder when they get up to leave if they're surprised to see others there. LOL You're right-coffee shops used to be about connecting. That is still seen occasionally. But, sometimes I think the young people who use these places are perhaps between work and school or cannot afford the internet at home. I'm trying to figure how these places make money with people only buying coffee and hanging for hours.

  14. Sometimes our house looks like this too with everyone on their own computer and in their own little world. Your photo portrays the atmosphere perfectly.
