Yesterday, as I was driving home from work, I came around a curve beyond the big pillars of the overpass, and there was this train coming at me! The tracks aren't used often and there are no warning lights. It wasn't blowing its whistle. I slammed on the brakes, avoiding being the lead item on the local news.

Bobbie! That is so scary! I'm glad that you did manage to keep your wits about you well enough to a) not get hit and b) take a fantastically neat photo. I'm just not so sure you should take the themes so literarily.
ReplyDeleteWow! Glad you are okay - that must have been scary. I like the blur in this shot.
ReplyDeleteI see you needed a drink when you got home - that must have been sooooo close!
ReplyDeleteYikes! Hard to believe they don't have those warning lights and arms. The blur does add a lot of drama here...
ReplyDeleteGlad you did slam on the brakes! This is another interesting post production edit!
ReplyDeleteWhen locomotive meets automobile, locomotive wins. I'm glad your automobile didn't meet up with the locomotive! Nice blur - give a fearful feel to situation!
ReplyDeleteWow! Very scary!! Yet, you showed the true spirit of a photowalker and snapped a reminder image. :-)
ReplyDeleteHmm...looks like an LMX B39-8E. That could put a world of hurt on one's car or person. Did you grab the camera before or after you slammed on the brakes?
ReplyDeleteI have my handy iPhone next to me when I drive--I listen to books on it. AFTER I slammed on the brakes, I grabbed it and shot the train as it rounded the curve and went by me on the driver side. You can see a bit of the side mirror at the bottom of the photo.
ReplyDeleteGreat stop . . . and great capture! This is taking the themes to the limit.
ReplyDeleteJust your story has my heart pounding! Glad you missed! Way to capture what could have been a tragic event...glad you missed! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you stopped early enough, but can imagine how you might have felt when you finally were at home ...
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing presence of mind and a very cool image!
ReplyDeleteYou must've had an adrenalin rush after this encounter! Super action shot!
