Groceries

On Thursday, we're leaving for a 3 1/2 week camping trip to Arkansas. Part of the prep was today's expedition to Whole Foods to stock up on gluten free staples that might be hard to come by on the road. This cheerful clerk made a routine errand a pleasure.

  1. Hope you have a good time! A good friend of mine is always searching for gluten-free products. Whenever I find some good ones, I send him pictures so he knows where to find them. He also is lactose intolerant. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I could eat bread and cheese!

  2. I have to admit that giving up bread was a heart-ache. I had made all my own bread for 20 years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. But 11 years ago, I was literally starving to death--90 pounds at 5'8"--because I just couldn't absorb anything I ate. As it says in the Bible, "I set before you life and death--choose life." I chose life, which did, sadly, mean giving up my beloved bread. But at least I can still have cheese, and I enjoy that in abundance.

  3. Well, if they took away bread, cheese and wine for me, I might think life is not worth living! I'm glad you can at least still eat some cheese. Thankfully more vendors are making products for people who can't eat gluten.

  7. Hi Bobbi,
Have a great trip and enjoy your goodies. I'm sure gluten free items are hard to find in the great outdoors. Have a great day!

  8. My MIL can't eat gluten either and she loves when she comes to Omaha...we have a much bigger selection of gluten free products than her small town. She is also in love w/ Wheatfield's gluten free cinnamon rolls (a resturant/bakery here in town)

  10. I like looking at people's groceries and then making up in my mind what type of person they are. I would say you are an educated and health conscious individual. I think I see fish and polenta; hope you keep the former refrigerated but since you are educated I'm sure you will. ;-)

    Have a good trip!

  11. I'm sure you will have a fine trip, nothing like driving into a tropical storm. The best irony would be you seeing no rain.
I'm a grocery line voyeur too and like speculating on peoples' lives by what they buy
