A portrait of one of the patrons at our library. No, he didn't know I was taking his picture. My husband is beginning to worry about me and my venturing into stealth photography.
If he's a UConn fan he best turn the page and read backwards! Now, how do you pronounce Britain here, or am I going to have to look that up? Any animosity towards the name that came out of the Revolutionary War? :-)
I like that term - stealth photography. I'm becoming more attracted to it myself. I try to practice while my husband isn't around, however. And I'm still shy about posting images.
LOVE this...a mundane every day scene made exciting and newsworthy! It is kinda fun capturing people who don't know you are shooting them...although it still intimidates me a bit!
I never take shots of strangers but I'm sure it is a lot easier to do this with iPHones than with dSLRs. You can always pretend you're just texting at an odd angle. ;-)
@Steven: here, "New Britain" is pronounced, "New Bri'ahn," , short I, with kind of a glotteral stop in between the syllables. The Revolutionary isn't an issue (the sports teams at our Berlin High school are the Redcoats!)However, as a person of Irish descent...well, lets just say the whole Redcoat thing has always bothered me.
@jackscrap: That's the cool thing about iPhoneography: I'm sitting across from this dude, and I'm just looking into my phone. When (and it did happen) the paper came down, I just gazed into the phone and moved some fingers, so it looked like I was texting! I do make usre when I do my "stealth photography" that people aren't clearly identifiable and that it's in a very public place.
This is a great everyday pose and the processing really makes it wonderful. I'm shy with my camera too but one can't hide or pretend with a DSLR...should have a phone camera just for these occasions.
...is to fill 52 themes, one a week for the year. Some weeks, maybe I'll try to find several photos to fit the themes. Others, I may spend more time trying to perfect one that seems best to represent the theme. Three years of a photo-a-day opened my eyes, now I want to hone my skills.
Somehow, a camera allows me to see more deeply and awakens the eye. For me, undertaking these year-long challenges is a way to become more aware of the world that swirls around me.

ReplyDeleteI think we are going to have to start a bail bond fund for those of us who may get arrested in the course of the challenge. You may beat me to it!

ReplyDeleteAh what our Spouses (or is the plural Spice?) have to put up with! LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat would you have done if had lowered his paper at the time you were taking this shot - is there a plan B if this happens? LOL
ReplyDeletethis is absolutely beautiful! "stealth photography"? I am doing it all days long.
