A cannon fires from the Union side at a Civil War re-enactment at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain. My husband is a Civil
War buff, so he's in his glory right now. I'm doomed to be at a lot of these events over the next few years. Note that most of the people who do this are so into authenticity that they slept in flimsy period tents through a horrible wind and rain storm.

They have these reenactments in our area, too, but usually not until summer. Great catch on the smoke!!
ReplyDeleteIt is always a pleasure to observe the reenactment camps. Our six grade classes here are treated to a history lesson by being part of a Civil War reenactment complete with uniforms. This wonderful program is brought to the school children by the Civil War re-enactors from the area.
ReplyDeleteWe have watched many civil war documentaries on the TV, unbelievable conditions for everyone.
ReplyDeleteA smokin' smoke photo! We have reenactments of cavalry life at a frontier fort near us every June...always interesting! Would love to see one of these Civil War ones.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great iphone picture. I am amazed and impressed.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to one, so I especially enjoy these pics!
ReplyDeleteGreat job of capturing an old-timey feel with this one, Bobbie. I'd love to see one of these events in person...
ReplyDeleteIf they practice total authenticity you may want to kiss your husband now, for I don't think dental hygiene of the mid 19th Century was all that good.
ReplyDeleteMy brother was a big civil war enthusiast when we grew up. I always got to be the drummer in the Union army when we played neighborhood war. I played a mean drumroll if you got into our firing squad.
