Paper Goods Pond is one of a vast number of mill ponds that were created here in New England during the Industrial Revolution. It got its name because the factory associated with it manufactured paper goods, especially paper cups. They were still spitting out Sherri-Cups when we moved here in 1981. Eventually, they went out of business, and the building went idle. But a few years ago, some visionary company bought the property and has spent considerable resources to convert it to classy but affordable condos. Several years before that, the previous owners, Sherwood Industries, donated the pond to the town. The town built a small park so that people could come and fish or launch canoes, kayaks and such. In the winter, the town plows the pond for skating. And we're lucky enough to be able to walk there!
I'm another fan of this pond through the seasons, this shot is no exception. You have made a remarkable collection of images from this one lovely spot.
...is to fill 52 themes, one a week for the year. Some weeks, maybe I'll try to find several photos to fit the themes. Others, I may spend more time trying to perfect one that seems best to represent the theme. Three years of a photo-a-day opened my eyes, now I want to hone my skills.
Somehow, a camera allows me to see more deeply and awakens the eye. For me, undertaking these year-long challenges is a way to become more aware of the world that swirls around me.
So peaceful . . .
ReplyDeleteWell, lowering anyway!
ReplyDeleteHi Bobbie,
ReplyDeleteYour pond looks really peaceful and relaxing. I'll have to take a night shot of our pond. Thanks for the idea. Have a great day!
Sherrie
You have me absolutely in love w/ your Papers Pond! I really think you should somehow group some of theses pics together in a collage of some sort!
ReplyDeleteI too love the seasons of Paper Goods Pond. Have you ever told the story of the origin of the name? Could you see it as Paper or Plastic Pond?
