Way back in the '70s, a wonderful woman named Bette Hagman decided that people with celiac disease should not have to live without good bread, pasta and other delights of life--so she set about making all that possible. This is gluten free sourdough bread made from one of her recipes. We had it with a beef pot pie...with the tender flaky crust from another. I am always grateful to pioneers like Bette who simply won't accept the stays quo.

I have no food allergies, knock on wood, and don't quite understand what gluten does to those that do, but I'm glad you have some hedonistic delights that don't compromise your health!
ReplyDeleteWho nibbled on the corner of the bread?
That is a wonderful story, Bobby. The photo is wonderful with great detail, also.
ReplyDeleteMy friend was here tonight and he needs to be gluten and dairy-free. I don't know what I'd do without bread and cheese! Glad you found ways to work around it.
ReplyDeleteThose people who refuse to accept limitations are true heroes. The bread looks delicious!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing, we have the same problem in our family. I know, it's a very big problem. When we go to the restaurant it's not always easy to find something "eatable" ...
